With his parents always away on archeological adventures, this young man relies on the companionship of his three best friends. Mariana, a beautiful Middle Eastern girl, lives alone with her mother, and Fiji and Bali are two twins adopted from an Asian country. All four teens know what it is like to be considered different.

When a bully at school pulls out a unicorn horn to show off, Caiman feels a sudden urge to rescue the precious item. He steals it out of the teen's locker and takes it home, only to fall into a deep sleep filled with strange dreams. Caiman recruits his friends to help him solve the mystery of the horn, and the four friends are pulled through a portal and into an amazing new land.

Whimsixaxa (Whimsy), a colorful fairy girl, appears to them to explain their quest: They are to save the world from doom by filling it with the imagination it had been missing for too long. They also learn that the horn belongs to Burtiquo, ruler of magic and protector of the world. It is up to the teenagers to find him.

Along the way, the friends discover incredible things about themselves that help them defeat their insecurities and battle the ferocious monsters they meet. They also encounter guardians of fire, water and earth, whose powers save them from danger at unexpected moments. A leprechaun and mermaids also appear to liven up the quest. As the mission unfolds, great lessons are revealed for the teens to take back to their world - if they can survive.
